INTERMEDIATE AGRICULTURAL DATA COLLECTION WORKSHOP
June 5-8
Kirkwood Community College
Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Instructor: Terry Brase
Registration Fee: $100 Travel Stipend: $300
The purpose of this workshop is to provide field data collection techniques that can be incorporated into many agriculture programs. Field collection and managing the collection of georeferenced data will be demonstrated through hands on activities. Participants will create a sampling grid to use in the field and a template for georeferenced crop scouting. They will setup and collect field operation coverage maps, learn the process of collecting yield data and utilize field collected georeferenced data for analysis.
Target Audience: Postsecondary agriculture and science teachers and university faculty. Each participant is expected to have fundamental skills and knowledge of GPS and GIS. This includes basic proficiency with Arcview and GPS units.
BASIC AGRICULTURAL DATA COLLECTION WORKSHOP

Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture

This workshop introduces how soil and crop attributes are collected using GPS and IDI’s (intelligent devices), such as yield monitors. Hands on activities will be used to collect field data and create simple field maps. Participants will use a simple GPS unit to collect field data. They will download aerial imagery, create field boundaries, use soil type maps and create field production thematic maps.
Target Audience: This workshop is for educators only. Suggested audience is postsecondary agriculture and science teachers and university faculty. Participants should have a basic knowledge of geospatial technologies in order to get the full benefit of this workshop.
